The Jefferson County Parks and Recreation
Commission (JCPRC) will be holding a 2nd Public Forum on the proposed Master Plan for Hite Road Park on Tuesday,
January 12th at 7pm at the Jefferson County Community Center at 235 Sam Michaels Lane, Shenandoah Junction.
The Commission has secured the services of LPDA, Inc. a Sterling
Virginia based Landscape Architecture firm to develop the Master Plan. LPDA and the Commission have worked with Stakeholders
representing several groups, as well as taken input from the general public since the first public meeting to develop a program
and preliminary design for Hite Road Park to facilitate the needs of the active and passive recreation user in the County
which include: fitness and walking trails, baseball, softball, soccer, and football fields, basketball and tennis courts,
tot lots and playgrounds, a skate park, a dog park, a mini golf course, and supporting facilities.
The Master Plan also incorporates a high emphasis on passive recreation opportunities
and includes a series of picnic pavilions and shelters and outdoor games to take advantage of the 119 acre site’s natural
amenities and treed areas.
Surveys are available at the Community
Center and the Preliminary Plan will be on display until the Public Forum.
The Commission will move towards finalizing and adopting the Master Plan following
this meeting. The public is urged to come out and share your thoughts and support for this new park at the forum.
